KNX
KNX is an internationally established building automation standard used to connect and control different building functions through a common system. Lighting, HVAC, curtains, sensors, room controls and energy functions can work together instead of operating as separate standalone systems.
AZTÖR Automation designs and integrates KNX systems for luxury villas, apartments, offices, hotels, commercial buildings and other Smart Building projects across the UAE.
One of the main advantages of KNX is flexibility. A wall keypad can control more than a single light circuit—it can activate complete scenes such as Welcome, Away, Meeting, Night or All Off, combining lighting, curtains and compatible HVAC functions through one command.
For Smart Lighting, KNX can control switching, dimming, scenes, occupancy and schedules. Where DALI lighting is used, a suitable KNX-DALI gateway can bring professional lighting control into the wider KNX automation system.
KNX is also widely used for room and HVAC automation. Compatible thermostats, room controllers, actuators and gateways can manage fan coil units and interface with other HVAC systems according to the actual mechanical design.
Motorised curtains and blinds can be integrated into KNX so they respond to wall controls, scenes, schedules or compatible environmental sensors. This is particularly useful for villas, hotels, offices and premium residential projects.
Sensors make KNX automation more responsive. Presence, motion, temperature, humidity, CO₂, daylight and other compatible sensors can provide information that the system uses to control building functions automatically.
For larger projects, KNX can integrate with a BMS or other building platforms through suitable BACnet, Modbus, DALI or manufacturer-specific gateways. This allows KNX room automation to become part of a wider building-management strategy.
Existing KNX installations can also be inspected, modified and expanded. AZTÖR can assist with device replacement, programming changes, additional lighting or HVAC controls, troubleshooting and upgrades where the existing system and project files allow.

KNX is a flexible automation standard, but the final system should be engineered around the actual electrical and mechanical design of the property. Lighting circuits, dimming drivers, HVAC equipment, curtain motors, sensors, panel architecture and required integrations should be reviewed before device selection. For existing KNX systems, access to the original ETS project file can significantly simplify modification and expansion.
