Cantilever Gates

Cantilever Gates

Cantilever gates are sliding vehicle gates designed to travel across an entrance without wheels running on a ground track through the clear driveway. Instead, the gate is supported by a cantilever structure, specialised profile and roller-carriage system positioned beside the opening.

The absence of a track across the vehicle path is the main advantage. There is no driveway rail to collect sand, stones or site debris, and the clear entrance remains uninterrupted. This makes cantilever gates particularly practical for warehouses, logistics yards, factories, industrial compounds and other UAE sites with frequent vehicle movement.

A cantilever gate is not simply a conventional sliding gate without its track. The gate requires an extended counterbalance section behind the clear opening, and the complete structure must be engineered around the opening width, gate weight, frame construction, wind exposure and supporting roller system.

AZTÖR provides a free site inspection before recommending a cantilever gate. We assess the clear vehicle opening, available run-back space, foundation area, gate dimensions, expected weight, ground conditions, vehicle traffic, wind exposure, operating frequency, power availability and required access-control functions.

The supporting foundation and roller carriages are critical to reliable operation. The gate must remain correctly balanced and aligned as it travels between the carriage assemblies. Poor foundation work, insufficient counterbalance, incorrect rollers or a flexible gate frame can create excessive resistance and premature wear.

Cantilever gates can be manually operated or fully automated. For powered applications, the operator is selected according to the complete moving gate weight, gate length, operating frequency, mechanical resistance and site environment. Heavy commercial and industrial gates require automation designed for the expected duty rather than a residential motor selected only by nominal weight.

AZTÖR works with established gate automation manufacturers including FAAC, CAME, BFT, Nice, Benincà and other suitable systems available for UAE and GCC projects. The selected motor, control board, rack and safety equipment are matched to the actual cantilever gate and required operating duty.

Automatic cantilever gates can integrate with remote transmitters, keypads, card readers, biometric readers, intercoms and central access-control systems. Commercial and industrial sites can also incorporate UHF vehicle identification, ANPR, loop detectors and other compatible vehicle-access technologies.

Safety design considers the main closing edge as well as the gate's travel and run-back areas. Depending on the application, photocells, safety edges, obstacle detection, warning lights, vehicle loops and other protective devices can be incorporated around the moving gate.

Existing cantilever gates can also develop mechanical faults even when the motor remains operational. Worn carriage rollers, damaged guide rollers, gate sagging, foundation movement, rack misalignment or structural distortion can increase resistance and place unnecessary load on the operator. AZTÖR therefore checks both the gate mechanics and automation during fault diagnosis.

AZTÖR provides cantilever gate supply, automation, installation, repair and preventive maintenance across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, with suitable commercial and industrial project support available across the wider GCC.

Cantilever gates require sufficient side run-back space for both the clear opening and the engineered counterbalance section. Final gate length, counterbalance, profile, carriage capacity, foundation, motor and safety system depend on the opening width, complete gate weight, wind loading, operating frequency and site conditions. AZTÖR confirms the final configuration after a free site inspection and technical assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

A cantilever gate is a sliding gate supported by roller carriages located beside the entrance. The gate travels across the opening without using wheels or a ground track through the clear driveway.

The main advantage is an uninterrupted driveway with no sliding gate track across the vehicle path. This can reduce problems caused by dirt, stones, sand and debris collecting around a ground rail.

A conventional tracked sliding gate normally travels on wheels along a ground rail. A cantilever gate is supported from the side by specialised roller carriages and an extended gate structure, allowing it to travel above the clear driveway.

Yes. AZTÖR provides a free site inspection for applicable cantilever gate projects to assess the opening, run-back space, foundations, gate dimensions, traffic, environmental conditions, power and automation requirements.

Generally, yes. In addition to the clear opening, a cantilever gate requires an engineered counterbalance section. Sufficient run-back space must therefore be confirmed during the site assessment.

Yes. The roller carriage assemblies carry significant gate loads and normally require a properly designed structural foundation. The foundation depends on the gate dimensions, weight, system design and site conditions.

Yes. They are particularly useful for busy commercial and industrial entrances because there is no track crossing the vehicle route.

They can be well suited to truck and heavy-vehicle entrances because the driveway remains clear of a ground rail. The gate structure, foundations, automation and safety system must still be engineered for the actual entrance and traffic.

Yes. Cantilever gates can provide a clean trackless entrance for villas and premium residences where sufficient side run-back and structural space are available.

Yes. Automatic operation is commonly achieved using a suitable sliding gate operator and drive rack, with the motor selected according to the complete moving gate weight, duty cycle and site conditions.

Depending on the gate size and operating requirement, AZTÖR works with established manufacturers such as FAAC, CAME, BFT, Nice, Benincà and other suitable gate automation brands available in the UAE and GCC.

A compatible sliding gate operator may be used, but it must be correctly sized for the complete cantilever gate, mechanical resistance and operating duty. The motor should not be selected solely from the clear opening width.

Yes. Compatible systems can integrate with card readers, biometric readers, keypads, intercoms and central access-control systems.

Yes. Long-range UHF readers can be integrated for authorised vehicle access at residential communities, warehouses, staff entrances and commercial facilities.

Yes. Compatible ANPR systems can trigger authorised vehicle access based on recognised number plates, subject to the required access-control design and applicable requirements.

Yes. Suitable vehicle loop detectors can be incorporated for vehicle presence, opening or safety functions according to the entrance design.

The required safety arrangement depends on the gate and site. Photocells, safety edges, obstacle detection, warning lights and vehicle detection can be used to protect the closing and movement areas.

Possible causes include worn carriage rollers, damaged guides, incorrect alignment, gate-frame distortion, foundation movement, rack problems or debris around mechanical components. The gate mechanics should be checked before increasing motor force.

Yes. AZTÖR can inspect suitable existing systems for faults involving motors, racks, carriage assemblies, guide rollers, alignment, control boards, sensors and access-control equipment.

Often, yes, provided the gate structure, cantilever profile, roller carriages, foundations and mechanical movement remain suitable. The existing gate should be inspected before a replacement motor is selected.

Yes. AZTÖR provides maintenance covering gate operators, drive racks, roller carriages, guide rollers, alignment, control boards, photocells, safety devices and access-control components according to the agreed scope.

AZTÖR provides cantilever gate installation, automation, repair and maintenance across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, with suitable project support across the wider GCC.
