Industrial personnel doors provide dedicated pedestrian access to warehouses, factories, workshops, logistics facilities and other industrial buildings without requiring workers or visitors to use large vehicle or loading-bay doors. Separating pedestrian and vehicle movement can also help create a more organised access arrangement around busy industrial sites.
Unlike a typical office door, an industrial personnel door may be exposed to frequent use, dust, heat, external weather conditions, trolley movement and demanding working environments. The door leaf, frame, hinges, closer, locking and other hardware therefore need to be selected around the actual location and frequency of use.

Security can range from a conventional mechanical lock to controlled staff access. Suitable doors can integrate with electromagnetic or electromechanical locking, card readers, biometric readers, keypads, door contacts, request-to-exit devices and other authorised access-control systems.
Where the personnel door forms part of an emergency escape route, the required exit hardware and opening arrangement must be selected according to the approved life-safety design. Panic or emergency exit hardware can be incorporated where required. If fire resistance is also specified, the complete door, frame and hardware assembly must have the appropriate tested or certified performance.
Personnel doors can also be incorporated beside industrial sectional doors, roller shutters, loading bays and other large industrial openings, providing employees with a dedicated pedestrian route without unnecessarily operating the main industrial door. Where a wicket or pass door within an industrial door is being considered, its suitability should be assessed separately because it affects the construction and operation of the main door.
