Flashing Lights
Flashing lights are visual warning devices used with automatic gates to alert drivers, pedestrians, security personnel and other nearby users when a gate is operating or about to move. They form part of the overall gate automation and safety arrangement rather than controlling the gate movement themselves.
Commonly installed on gate posts, pillars or other clearly visible positions, a flashing light is connected to a compatible gate control board. Depending on the automation system and controller settings, the light may flash before movement, during opening and closing, or according to the manufacturer's programmed warning sequence.

Visibility is particularly useful at entrances where approaching drivers may not immediately realise that a large automatic gate is moving. A flashing light should be positioned where it can be readily seen by the people approaching the gate without creating unnecessary glare or visual obstruction. The correct mounting location depends on the entrance layout, gate movement, vehicle approach direction, surrounding structures and other warning devices already installed.

Modern gate warning lights commonly use LED technology because of its visibility, low power consumption and long service life. The actual supply voltage, flashing function and connection method must match the selected gate control system.

When replacing an existing warning light, voltage and control-board compatibility are checked before installation.
Some manufacturer systems incorporate an antenna into the flashing-light housing or provide an arrangement for a compatible radio antenna. This can help support remote-control reception where required, but antenna functionality depends on the selected automation and should not be assumed for every flashing light.
For larger industrial entrances, visual warning can also be combined with an appropriate audible warning device where the site assessment or operating procedure requires additional notification. The warning arrangement should suit the environment rather than creating unnecessary noise at residential properties.
Flashing lights are only one part of automatic gate safety. They provide a visual warning but do not detect an obstruction. Depending on the gate, they may be used together with safety photocells, safety edges, obstacle detection, vehicle loops and other protective devices.
