Emergency Escape Doors
Emergency escape doors are designed around one essential requirement: people must be able to leave the building safely when an emergency occurs. The door, locking hardware, panic or emergency exit device and any connected access-control system therefore need to work together without creating an unnecessary obstruction to escape.
These doors are used throughout commercial buildings, warehouses, factories, shopping facilities, hotels, schools, healthcare properties and other occupied premises across the UAE. Depending on the building and approved life-safety design, the solution may include single or double-leaf doors, panic exit hardware, emergency exit devices, door closers, monitored locks, access-control interfaces and fire-alarm integration.
Emergency escape doors should not be confused automatically with fire-rated doors. An escape door is primarily concerned with providing the required means of egress, while a fire-rated door assembly is designed and tested to provide specified fire-resistance performance. Where panic hardware is required, suitable panic bars or touch-bar devices can allow occupants to release the door from the escape side through a simple action. Other locations may use appropriate emergency exit hardware according to the occupancy, door configuration and approved life-safety requirements.
Controlled access from the secure side can still be incorporated without compromising the intended escape function. Depending on the approved system design, emergency escape doors can work with card readers, electric locking, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, alarms and fire-alarm interfaces. The required fail-safe or emergency-release behaviour must be established as part of the project design.
For automatic entrance applications that form part of an emergency escape route, only an appropriately designed system should be used. Suitable escape-route automatic sliding door systems are available from established manufacturers such as GEZE, dormakaba, ASSA ABLOY and other specialist entrance brands, but the selected system must specifically satisfy the project's required escape and safety functions.
Where fire-rated performance is required, AZTÖR supplies or integrates only appropriate tested and certified door assemblies and compatible hardware according to the project specification. Adding unsuitable locks, closers or other hardware to a certified assembly can affect its intended performance, so component compatibility must be checked before modification.
